Villa Maria Settlement - Upgrading of Water System
Home  >  Our Projects  >  Water & Infrastructure  >  Villa Maria Settlement - Upgrading of Water System

Villa Maria is a rural Fijian community located on the eastern side of Taveuni, within the district of Wainikeli in Bouma. The naturally occurring spring that provides piped drinking water  into Villa Maria is located 300m, from the village and the sprinbox which was built some 20 years ago by village elders, was showing signs of decay, and contamination and with only two taps located in the settlement and due to the low pressure, the two taps could not meet the people's needs. The project was funded at a cost $6,600 benefitting a community of 52 and took aproximately seven weeks to complete, with a complete  reticulation system layed  with a the spring box repaired and covered to prevent surface contamination by humans and or animals and a diversion ditch dug to allow surface water to drain away from the spring and finally a proper waterwater run-off system put in place to minimize breeding of mosquitoes.
