About Fiji
The country of Fiji is a group of volcanic islands in the Southwest Pacific, located about 3,000 km from the nearest continental landmass, Australia. Of the 322 islands, about 110 are inhabited, but the two main islands are home to 84% of the country’s population of 825,000. Fiji has a relatively high income level compared with neighboring Pacific island countries, a skilled and educated workforce, and a well-developed private sector.From 1874 To 1970 Fiji was a colony of Great Britain. During this time many Indians were shipped to the country to work as laborers on sugar cane plantations. Chinese, Europeans, and other Pacific islanders also made Fiji their home, resulting in the islands’ current ethnic diversity.
Since gaining independence, and despite a series of government coups, Fiji’s reputation has continued to grow as a popular tourist destination. With an economy that is still primarily based upon agriculture, the country is known for its stunning natural beauty and warm, friendly people.

Why Fiji?
Simply put, Fiji is our home. As an investor, as a world-famous product, and as a good neighbor, FIJI Water is dedicated to being a key partner in the country’s development.In the UN Human Development Index, Fiji is currently rated 108 out of 182 countries with data available. This number is based upon several factors including average per capita GDP, life expectancy, and school enrollment data. It shows Fiji in a position similar to many Latin American and Caribbean nations, falling into place between Jamaica (100) and Honduras (112).
Fiji receives the majority of its development assistance from international and regional aid agencies such as NZaid (New Zealand), AusAID (Australia), the UN, the World Health Organization, and others. Nonetheless, outside aid represents only 2% of the country’s total GDP.
We believe that the private sector has an important role to play in the advancement of Fiji. As an engaged corporate citizen, we are actively seeking out ways to better address the underserved areas of Fiji’s development, with special attention to health, education, water and sanitation infrastructure. It is our hope that other local and international companies will join us in this effort.
