5/5/10 - Fiji Water employees help nearby communities
Last weekend, more than 60 Fiji Water employees, family members, friends, and students from Vatukaloko Junior Secondary School volunteered to help bring clean water to their nearby communities.
These were to Natalecake, Vadravadra and Wavuwavu villages in Ba.
The volunteers split into teams to install a filter in each home, (a total of 130 filters) and instructed the community members on use and maintenance as well as basic hygiene and sanitation.
This is a part of Fiji Water’s ongoing partnership with the US based NGO, Give Clean Water Inc., whose goal it is to install 200,000 water filters in homes around Fiji over the next 10 years.
Since 2008, Give Clean Water has installed over 1,000 household water filters in communities and schools around Nadi and Ba.
The filter, made by Sawyer Products, is known as the Point One Filter.
It removes 99.9per cent of all bacteria, protozoa, and cysts like E Coli, Cholera and Typhoid, preventing many water-bourne diseases.
These are common during times of natural disaster, water shortage, and high concentration of people.
The filters come with a one million gallon guarantee -essentially for the recipient’s lifetime.
