Two hundred and fifty villagers have benefitted from a project undertaken by the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation.

Foundation manager Joel Sahai said,” The scope of works included sourcing water from natural spring catchments located almost two kilometres on a mountain. The water is pumped into two 10,000 litre water tanks and piped to the school as well as the teachers’ quarters and individual homes.

They were all completed at a cost of just about $12, 000,” Mr Sahai said.

The facility was commissioned last weekend by Fane Niumataiwalu, manager FIJI Water Foundation.

It was witnessed by close to 70 villagers, parents, teachers and students. The Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation together with the FIJI Water Foundation, Westpac Banking Corporation and Punja and Sons of Lautoka, are the four local donors which provide annual funding to the Rotary Water Foundation.

Mr Sahai said offshore funding is received from the Rotary International Foundation. “The provision of funding for much needed clean and safe drinking water to disadvantaged and impoverished settlements and schools is a demonstration of their corporate social responsibility policy,” Mr Sahai said.

Established in October 2007, the Foundation has been helping rural communities throughout Fiji and to date, it has completed over 104 projects costing over FJ$1.2 million and benefiting around 45,950 people.
