28/04/10 - Fiji Water supports 'plant a million trees' initiative

Fiji Water is helping the Department of Fisheries and Forestry achieve its ‘One Million Trees: Our Gift to the Future Generation’ initiative.
“We are giving a donation of $2000 for advertising or whatever worthy cause they intend to use it on,” Natural Waters of Viti Limited business development manager Vijay Pillay said.
The cheque handover took place at the Department of Fisheries and Forestry in Toorak yesterday.
The initiative has already seen 2065 trees planted in 13 days and the number will increase as data is still being collected.
“This is a very achievable project and we have certainly seen the community helping the government achieve this one million tree initiative by April next year,” Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forestry Viliame Naupoto said. “To achieve the target 83,000 plants and trees have to be planted per month,” he said.
Mr Pillay said they were very happy to be involved in this with the Fiji Water Foundation.
“When we heard that government is doing this for our future generation we wanted to come on board and see how we can assist the Department of Forestry and today we are proud to be able to come with a cheque for this department,” Mr Pillay said.
