24/04/09 - Ray of hope for rural school
Echoes of laughter disturbed the stillness of the rolling hills surrounding Mulomulo Muslim Primary School as the students celebrate the donation of $15, 500 by the Fiji Water Foundation yesterday.
Mulomulo Muslim Primary school head teacher Mr Khalil Rehman said the timely involvement of Fiji Water foundation will boost the morale of the students and school teachers in this trying time.
The school is build among sugar cane farms, approximately 13 kilometres away from Nadi.
Mr Rehman said most of the school parents live below the poverty level guidelines and can’t afford the basis niceties of life.
“We asked them for their assistance last year and they come with the much needed fund to kick start our school development plan,” said Mr Rehman. He said the school starts of in a low profile in 1966 with only two classrooms catering students from Mulomulo and Yavuna Village as well as students from the farming community of Tovatova settlement.
“Many of these students come from the surrounding farming neighborhood and we can imagine the hardship their parents went through,” said Mr Rehman.
Fiji Water Foundation coordinator Molly Power said giving away money is a pleasure and their committed to their community outreach despite their financial gloom impacted by the global economic recession.
“This is only the beginning but the hard work comes from you,” said Ms Powers before handing over the cheque to the school management.
