25/05/09 - Fiji Water reaches out to community

The Fiji Water Foundation launched the company’s first ever Fiji- based sales promotion for charity yesterday.
Fiji Water will work in coordination with Morris Hedstrom stores nation wide for the beneficiaries of the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation.
The promotion will see 5cents from every 1.5 litre bottle of water sold go toward the foundation.
Fiji Water director development and external affairs David Roth said they were pleased to celebrate the work of the inspiring organisations and communities.
“We are also pleased to recognise new partnerships and the significant commitment Fiji Water Foundation has made towards addressing development needs in Fiji,” Mr Roth said.
Present at the launch was Dr Parma Nand, world-renown cardiothoracic surgeon and founder of the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation.
Mr Roth said the organisation would be returning to Fiji to perform valve replacement and pacemaker surgeries in Lautoka in September.
Also announced yesterday was Fiji Water Foundation’s most recent group of successful grant applicants.
Representing the projects which were successfully applied for and granted in the last quarter were Dr. Joseph Kado chairman of the RHD Task Force of Cure Kids Fiji for their Rheumatic Fever Screening and Prevention Programme, Mr Khalil Rehman from Mulomulo Muslim Primary for their school kindergarten project, Mr. Nilkant Lal of JP Bayly Trust for their scholarship programme and Mr. Jone Bula of Viwa Village in Tailevu for their water project.
Rev Paul Ramswarup of The Good Neighbour International was also present for their community education resource centres, Dr. Maria Doton of Soroptimists of Ba for their two school water projects and Pascal Dayez-Burgeon of Alliance Francaise going towards the production of Fiji’s first Opera.
Representatives from Navunibitu Catholic Mission School for their school dining hall, Viani Village for their kindergarten and women’s centre project and Savatu Primary School for their water project, were not present yesterday.
