14/08/08 - Fiji Water gives life to charities
Water gives life, is pure and natural.
These were part of a teary thank you speech from Deaconess Olivia Nataniela of the Dilkusha Home after the home, two other orphanages and charities received over $20,000 worth of donations from the Fiji Water Foundation on Saturday.
The donations were part of Roll Giving, the employee charitable programme of Roll International Corporation, the parent company of Natural Waters Viti Limited (NWVL), producers of the world famous Fiji Water brand.
Fiji Water Foundation Coordinator Molly Powers said through the programme Fiji Water gave its salaried Fiji-based employees $250 - $1000 (US) to donate to local Fiji charities of their choice.
“That is company money for employees to give away,” she said.
Among the recipients of Saturday’s donation were Treasure House, St Christopher’s Home, Fiji Red Cross Society, Ra School for Special Education and Fiji Crippled Children Society.
Powers said Fiji Water was committed to being a better business, a better employer and a better neighbour.
“Our company has been giving back to our local community for many years, in many ways through donations of water, sponsorships, local outreach, volunteer works day and recently through the Fiji Water Foundation,” she said.
The programme started in mid-2007 with just three charities and has grown to over 15 organisations that Fiji Water employees have identified as charities they wanted to support.
Powers said that “many small contributions add up to a big difference”.
The donation was Fiji Water’s first official giving ceremony at its Yaqara plant and also included a tour of the water bottling works and lunch.
